Just when you thought you knew everything about people, along comes someone
who is so compelling and thought-provoking that it makes you sit still, listen and
learn more. What a great country we live in!
Akhtar Badshah will relate his book Purpose Mindset: How Microsoft Inspires
Employees and Alumni to Change the World to us in a very real and useful way.
This session can be eye-opening and change the way we see ourselves and others
in the community.
When Akhtar Badshah joined Microsoft as head of its global philanthropic efforts
back in 2004, the company’s reputation was not exactly warm and fuzzy. Fast-
forward to the present day, and Microsoft is now considered perhaps the most
benign of the giant tech companies and one of the most admired in any industry.
Akhtar says, “I feel that this was the untold story of Microsoft, Bill Gates, and their
leadership. Yes, they continue to change the world with technology, but they also
unleash thousands of people who go out and make a difference, because they were
inculcated with purpose through Microsoft’s giving programs.”
“The fact that Microsoft created this space for engagement to happen between its
employees and its community is critical.”
Akhtar left Microsoft in 2014 to join the UW Faculty and create a new startup. He
sits on boards affecting local and national audiences and is a bundle of energy.
